The Uzory folk instruments ensemble was organized by Hennady Shibalov and Anatoly Khandusenko in 1979. At that time, Hennady Shibalov was Mykolayiv Philharmonic Society art director and Anatoly Khandusenko worked as bayan playing teacher and folk music orchestra conductor at children's music school number 7.
The first staff of musicians was made up of Anatoly Tokmakov -bayan, Antonina Velikaya -domra prima, Evgenie Potapenko -balalaika, Gennady Shibalov -domra prima, and Anatoly Handusenko -balalaika. All of them were active enthusiasts and passionate fans of folk instruments music.
There have been many different musicians in the ensemble. A lot of them are real virtuosos: a winner of Republican competitions Victor Agnyannikov, a winner of regional competitions Irina Polyakova, a winner of All-Russia competitions Victor Rommel, Anatoly Semikozov, Aleksey Smykov, Alexander Chernyavsky, Igor Kiryak, and some others.

The ensemble is well known by its high level of performing skill and high art level. Its music can be heard on different television channels, radio and while numerous concerts and festivals. The geography of performances is not only cities and villages of Ukraine, but also the majority of republics of former Soviet Union: Donetsk region, Magadan area, the coast of Arctic Ocean etc. In the middle of 90s, the ensemble started changing its staff. Kyiv and Odesa conservatoire graduates came. At the head of the group now is Ivan Obrevko a musician who prefers to use not ordinal instruments for such ensemble as the Uzory is. A guitar, a metallofon, and percussions are among them.
The ensemble has been actively taking part in different concerts, festivals and performances in Ukraine, Europe and even in the USA. Here are some of its achievements for the last 7 years:
  • a special award for music performing at the International Competition in Klinhgental (Germany 1995)
  • the grand prix of the Gregora Serbana International Festival in Hague, Netherlands 1998
  • an award winner of Citta di Castelfidardo International Competition awards, Italy 2001
  • an award winner of Zolota Fortuna International Popularity Rating, Ukraine 2002
  • participating in the Nations Festival, the USA 2003
